Copenhagen Denmark with my toddler and preschooler
My family was lucky enough to have a great friend to visit and crash with in Østerbro. We spent ten days touring around Copenhagen and can condense our highlights into a tidy little week of fun with toddlers and preschoolers.
Copenhagen is baby-friendly to a degree I couldn’t even comprehend before visiting: the attractions either accommodate strollers or supply easy parking; changing tables abound; a lot of restaurants supply child-friendly menus and highchairs. Στ ‘αλήθεια. When I left Copenhagen, it made me feel like by comparison America hates babies.
Copenhagen is a mix of super-expensive and absolutely complimentary activities so it takes a little planning to balance the fun with the budget.
Experimentarium
Holden’s favorite thing about the Experimentarium was “all the things” and we had to agree with him. If you have a geeky streak and imagine the coolest hands-on science museum you could ever go to, it might look like the Experimentarium. Can you fit inside a bubble? measure the strength of your scream? feel the force of an earthquake? Ναι ναι ναι.
If you have a toddler, I recommend the membership. It will pay for itself after a couple visits. The cafe was only ok. You can bring your own food (recommended) and eat it downstairs.
Remisen indoor play area
Visit this absolutely complimentary indoor play space to let your toddler run off his energy near Trianglen (at Blegdamsvej 132). An massive climbing structure — that likely would not pass stringent safety laws in the U.S. — dominates the room. Older kids can climb up the sky and descend through the swirly slide. younger toddlers can climb underneath and find plenty to explore. other cool features: a pirate ship, zipline, fireman’s pole, ride-on toys, balls and separate rooms for crafts, dolls, and Legos.
Again, you will find ample stroller parking, changing tables, and cubbies for your belongings. Did I mention it is FREE? You’ll probably want to come back again and again.
There is no food or beverage in the Remisen complex but if you walk over toward the lakes, you can find a incredibly delicious hamburger at the Den Franske Café. toddlers will also take pleasure in enjoying the ducks year-round.
Akvarium
We took the bus toward the coast to visit the Denmark’s Akvarium. The Aquarium (Akvarium, get it? just say it out loud) is a short walk from the main road (away from the water). cool features include sea turtles, sharks, and all the characters from finding Nemo in one tank (for reals!)! The petting pool is open after 10:30.
No need to pack your own food. The cafe is respectable and we took pleasure in hot dogs (polse m/ brod or “sausage with bread”) and cocoa. and yes, there is a cloak room with stroller parking and plenty of changing tables in the men’s and women’s restrooms.
Admission prices are affordable (kids under three are complimentary and lots of reciprocal arrangements exist with other museums). At the end of the day, my sons loved the bus ride and seeing piles of snow then fields of snow (“c’mon boys, we’re in Europe! we have snow in California” oh well, the heart wants what it wants).
Thursday: Louisiana Museum
Take a 30 minute train ride out of town and visit the fantastic Louisiana museum of modern Art. You will also need to take about a 20 minute walk (so bring a stroller for worn out legs).
You might think that a toddler shouldn’t mix with a modern art museum. speak to me after you visit Louisiana.
The art museum is set up in a labyrinthine loop making the children’s wing difficult to find when you arrive. but oh my! once you find it, you will be blown away. and don’t stop at the first level, there are three levels of diy art projects with each floor focusing on a medium and artist. We got entangled on the Calder mobile level for a half hour using scissors, glue sticks, and bendy wire to create our very own mobiles and attach them to the display wall. In fact, our family of four was so immersed in this project that we forgot our plan of “divide and conquer” to see the rest of the museum in solo shifts.
Little Calder
Luckily, in a moment of selflessness, Holden declared that “we must do what you want considering that we spent so much time doing what I want.” After a delicious and pricey meal in the cafe, we strolled around the remaining exhibits. I pointed out that the layout is a little confusing (see exceptional use of the word “labyrinthine”); eventually we had to ask a safety monitor how to find the exit.
On the plus side, this is a fantastic museum and we all took pleasure in our visit.
On the down side, the Louisiana museum is expensive. We used our Copenhagen Card to get admission and train fare and this is a good way to go. considering that it is quite a hike to reach, I recommend it for little babies who will nap on the go or preschoolers who can skip a nap.
National Museet

ΤΕθνικό Μουσείο της Δανίας, ή Natmuseet, είναι ένα κόσμημα ενός τόπου για να πάρετε τα μικρά παιδιά και τα παιδιά προσχολικής ηλικίας. Εάν μπορείτε να πάρετε τα παιδάκια σας για να δείτε τους σωρούς των οστών και της πανοπλία, τότε μπορεί να έχετε την ευκαιρία να δείτε τα εθνικά αντικείμενα πριν ανακαλύψετε τη μεγάλη περιοχή παιχνιδιού.
Από την άλλη πλευρά, η ζώνη των παιδιών είναι γεμάτη από ενδιαφέροντα ιστορικά αντικείμενα που μπορείτε να ανεβείτε και να φορέσετε στο όνομα του παιχνιδιού. Αναρριχηθήκαμε σε ένα πειρατικό πλοίο, ένα μικρό σκάφος Viking, ένα τεράστιο άλογο, ένα μεσαιωνικό τοίχο και σε μια πακιστανική αγορά. Προσπαθήσαμε με πανοπλία και γυρίζουμε ξύλινα σπαθιά.
Το καφενείο είναι ακριβό και το μενού δεν φαινόταν φιλικό προς τα παιδιά. Αφήσαμε πεινασμένοι και τρελοί. Ω καλά. Θα ήθελα πολύ να μάθω στα σχόλια εάν υπάρχουν καλές επιλογές φαγητού κοντά.
Μουσείο Statens για Kunst
Την ημέρα που πήγαμε στην Εθνική Πινακοθήκη της Δανίας ή στο Μουσείο Statens για το Kunst, το κάναμε όλα λάθος, οπότε επιτρέψτε μου να σας βοηθήσω να το κάνετε σωστά. Για να επωφεληθείτε από το πρακτικό εργαστήριο παιδιών (με μικρή χρέωση), πρέπει να πάτε σε ένα Σαββατοκύριακο. Κατά τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας, χρησιμοποιείται από σχολικές ομάδες [πήγαμε μια εβδομάδα ημέρας].
Δίπλα στα εργαστήρια είναι ένα στρώμα bouncy που επιτρέπει στα μικρά παιδιά να βγάλουν τα άλματα τους [τα παιδιά μου δεν θα φύγουν]. Προσπαθήστε να ανακαλύψετε αυτή τη διασκεδαστική έκπληξη στην ιδανική στιγμή στην επίσκεψή σας, ώστε να έχετε μια στιγμή για να δείτε την τέχνη.
Είχαμε κάποια τύχη να ελέγξουμε το δροσερό χρονοδιάγραμμα της τέχνης και στη συνέχεια να κάνουμε ένα κυνήγι σαρωτή για να βρούμε τα διάφορα κομμάτια. Ο Holden ήταν ιδιαίτερα ευτυχής να βρει την παρακάτω εγκατάσταση.
Επίσης, το κακάο φαινόταν κακό καλό, αλλά κανένα από τα παιδιά μου δεν θα μοιράζεται. Έτσι, αγοράστε το δικό σας.
Κολύμπι στο DGI-byen
Το Dyi-Byen είναι απλά το πιο φανταστικό συγκρότημα κολύμβησης που έχω ποτέ την ευχαρίστηση να επισκεφθώ. Διαθέτει πολλά επίπεδα κολύμβησης και εκτόξευσης με φιλικές προς την οικογένεια ανέσεις σε κάθε στροφή (πάρκινγκ καροτσάκια, μεταφορείς μωρών και μπανιέρες, αλλάζοντας τραπέζι στην πισίνα).
Η κύρια περιοχή των παιδιών έχει σιντριβάνια ψεκασμού και ένα τραπέζι νερού για παλαιότερα προσχολικά, καθώς και επίπεδο βαθιάς ίντσες για βρέφη. Τα παιδιά θα απολαύσουν επίσης να απολαύσουν τους γονείς και τα μεγάλα παιδιά να πηδούν από το σκάφος καταδύσεων με ένα εδάφιο που ελέγχει το παράθυρο.
Οι τιμές εισόδου δεν είναι φθηνές, αλλά αξίζει τον κόπο. Μερικές συμβουλές: Φέρτε τη δική σας πετσέτα και έλα νωρίς! Είδαμε πολλές οικογένειες που παρατάσσονται για να εισέλθουν καθώς φεύγαμε γύρω από το μεσημέρι.
Άλλες ιδέες και παρατηρήσεις για τον έλεγχο της Κοπεγχάγης με τα παιδιά:
Δανική συμπεριφορά. Οι λαοί στη Δανία δεν ουρούν, πιέζουν για να προχωρήσουν. Επίσης, εάν χρειάζεστε βοήθεια, καλύτερα να το ζητήσετε. Οι ντόπιοι θα σας δώσουν χρήσιμες και άμεσες συστάσεις (και είναι πολύ γρήγοροι να επισημάνουν όταν “το κάνετε λάθος”), αλλά θα σας επιτρέψει να σταθείτε γύρω από όλη την ημέρα απλά κοιτάζοντας ανίδεοι. Λοιπόν, μιλήστε.
Biking.Copenhagen έχει μια όμορφη καλλιέργεια ποδηλασίας. Εάν δεν έχετε ήδη κύκλο, δανειστείτε ή νοικιάσετε ένα ποδήλατο, ώστε να αισθανθείτε την ελευθερία και τη χαρά. Ένας άλλος φίλος μου έδωσε το ποδήλατο φορτίου της και είχαμε μια φανταστική ποδηλασία περιπέτειας από το Charlottenlund στο ã ssterbro στο σκοτάδι.
Τροφή. Όλα τα τρόφιμά μας ήταν νόστιμα και πολλά από αυτά ήταν πολύ ακριβά. Οι δανικές οικογένειες δεν τρώνε σε εστιατόρια όσο και οι Αμερικανοί. Ωστόσο, όλα τα εστιατόρια που ελέγχαμε και τα καφέ ήταν φιλικά προς την οικογένεια.
Κρύο. Σχεδιάσαμε την επίσκεψή μας για να συμπέσει με τη διαθεσιμότητα των φίλων μας. Brrr. Αν επιστρέψουμε – και ελπίζω να το κάνουμε – θέλω να επισκεφθώ το καλοκαίρι. Υπάρχουν ακόμη και πολλά περισσότερα που μπορούσαμε να δούμε και να κάνουμε όταν ο καιρός είναι πάνω από το πάγωμα. Και πάλι, νομίζω ότι τα παιδιά μου θα χάσουν το χιόνι.
